Touched by strings

The French Quatuor Debussy is no ordinary string quartet. Many of their performances contain theatrical elements or have an organic connection with other disciplines, such as dance. At Oranjewoud, however, the quartet is stripping things back to basics with a bare-bones performance of Ravel and Shostakovich. What remains unchanged, though, is that they will be playing everything by memory, which gives the musicians enormous freedom. Don’t expect to see eyes firmly fixed on music sheets, instead you will see the musicians let the music dictate where and how to move, walk around and look the audience straight in the eye or when to gaze introspectively at each other. This results in a dynamic, intense experience of two of the most beautiful string quartets in the classical repertoire. The chirping birds add the finishing touch.
