Splendid Isolation (2/6)

You can’t see a thing. You can’t smell a thing. Imagine you can’t move a muscle, or utter a single word. All you can do is listen, just listen, continuously listen, finally really listen ... Banished from the outside world, underground, inside a cocoon – caged inside a claustrophobic matryoshka – there is only one way to freedom: Bach.

Splendid Isolation is an extreme classical music experience, an installation in an actual underground Cold War bunker, into which a number of festival musicians descend from the surface to perform Bach.

David Fernández (director and concept) has worked in performing arts for 25 years, during which he has created challenging, ground-breaking performances of a highly artistic, physical nature. He is also a cellist in the Stegreif Orchester Berlin and has been a classical music enthusiast since adolescence.

David Fernández (cello/performance), Almudena Vernhes (harpsichord)
Depending on the performance: Maya Fridman (cello), Noa Wildschut (violin), Shin Sihan (violin), Alexander Warenberg (cello), Camille Thomas (cello) and Izhar Elias (guitar)
